    You can now embed injury reports in your own website using our SOAP API. The wsdl file is located at the following link:
    http://www.whoshurt.com/WhosHurtFree.wsdl

    You can just copy the following few lines into your own website if you are using PHP:

    PHP Code:
    <?php
        $client
    = new SoapClient("http://www.whoshurt.com/wsdl/WhosHurtFree.wsdl");
        echo
    $client->getHtml('http://www.yoursite.com''fb','','');
    ?>
    If you want basketball scores instead then just replace 'fb' with 'bk'. Also, bb=baseball, sc=soccer.

    What if you run a fan site about the New York Yankees and only want their injuries? No problem just use the following code:
    PHP Code:
    <?php
        $client
    = new SoapClient("http://www.whoshurt.com/wsdl/WhosHurtFree.wsdl");
        echo
    $client->getHtml('http://www.yoursite.com''bb','mlb','nyy');
    ?>
    You can use other languages besides PHP. We show a PHP example because it is a popular language used by many websites.

    If you are running a VBulletin-based website then you can now embed injury reports in your own website using our SOAP API.

    You can take a look at www.footballbook.pro to see the widget in action. The widget will be freely available for all of the 2011 calendar year. Let us know if there are any changes or enhancements that you would like to see.

    To get the widget working on your site, all you have to do is create a new PHP widget and paste the following two lines into it:

    PHP Code:
        $client = new SoapClient("http://www.whoshurt.com/wsdl/WhosHurtFree.wsdl");

    $output $client->getHtml('http://www.yoursite.com''fb','','');
    If you want basketball scores instead then just replace 'fb' with 'bk'. Also, bb=baseball, sc=soccer.

    WhosHurt.com is making our injury database available via a SOAP interface! That means that you can put our injury report on your website very easily.pro will be offering its NFL stats service via SOAP interface!

    What is screen-scraping? Screen scraping is a technique of obtaining data off of a computer screen. There are plenty of good websites out there that have a lot of good information about football. While these web pages are really good for people to look at, it can be difficult to save the data to a file because the formatting (HTML) really gets in the way.

    From Wikipedia "Screen scraping is generally considered an ad hoc, inelegant technique, often used only as a "last resort" when no other mechanism is available. Aside from the higher programming and processing overhead, output displays intended for human consumption often change structure frequently. Humans can cope with this easily, but computer programs will often crash or produce incorrect results."

    First and foremost, SOAP is not the same as soap so let's not confuse the two. Somebody came up with this acronym and it stuck. SOAP stands for Simple Object Access Protocol but I don't think SOAP is very simple at least at first. You can read about it at Wikipedia but there are plenty of other places on the web to find out about SOAP and you can just Google it or click here and we'll Google it for you!

    In order to use SOAP you will need access to a WSDL file. You might be saying "WSDL?" what the heck is that? Well it isn't a radio station east of the Mississippi. WSDL stands for Web Services Description Language and WSLD is just XML. If you are saying "XML?" then maybe this service isn't for you . All of the big guys have WSDL files to access their services. eBay has a WSDL file and so do Amazon.com and Google.

    SOAP was designed to be a language-agnostic way to transfer objects from one computer to another. When I refer to language I am talking about computer languages. Some people like to program in Java while others might prefer C, C++, or C#. However there are plenty of other languages to choose from including PHP which is really popular on the web.

    There are a lot of good online resources for SOAP. Here's a good an intro to SOAP YouTube video done by a fellow in India. You would do well to watch it a few times and feel free to watch other videos as well.

    If you stuck with me this far then congratulations! You are on your way to becoming a SOAP initiate! Some languages do a really good job at hiding all of the complexities of SOAP and PHP is one of them. Let's look at some PHP examples of how to use SOAP to access our databases here at footballbook.pro.
